Ref# W8980 Scenic waterfronts on two sides lapping a beautiful tropical front garden with pool and a blissfully long white sand beach besides its back lawn allied to its charming design, decor and heritage make this Paradise island Villa one of the most appealing and enjoyable homes in the Bahamas or the Caribbean. Set towards the eastern tip of Paradise Island, the house has a uniquely attractive location, looking south across a waterway to the busy little harbour of downtown Nassau and north to the sea vistas of the Providence Channel, and so enjoys scenic water views of differing character on either side.

This villa combines the calm ambiance of waterfront living with the fun of having a sandy, oceanfront beach on its doorstep and the benefit of being extremely private, as estates on either side mean that the property is only accessible by boat to its private wooden jetty. At the same time, the property benefits from easy access to all the leisure facilities of the world famous Atlantis Resort and Casino (on the opposite end of Paradise Island) and of Nassau itself both just two minutes away by boat. Paradise Island Villa 's own boat ferries its guests across the waterway from a small harbour in downtown Nassau to its private wooden jetty, from where a coral stone path leads through lush flowering gardens and lawns past the circular swimming pool which features a stone archway and waterfall to a lovely, shaded courtyard with seating areas and a dining patio.

Built primarily from teak, with picturesque upper and lower verandahs with white balustrades at front and rear, the House’s facade blends the elegance of colonial island architecture with a presence and prestige that reflects the local stature of its original owner, Huntingdon Hartford, the man who developed most of Paradise Island. With wings on either side painted bright sky blue, set in colorful tropical gardens, it is a house of great character and charm, that has been the family home of a celebrated actor for the last thirty years.

From the front entrance there are steps across to a broad lower terrace into the main living salon, an airy and spacious room with a Burmese hardwood parquet floor and teak wainscot walls, formal in its decor, light and easy in ambiance with comfy sofas and chairs in pastel colors and French windows going through to the rear verandah. Also furnished with wicker sofas and tables to create various pleasant sea view seating areas. Recently reappointed and renovated, the property feels well cared for thoughout. To the left of the main salon is the dining room, which is similar in decor and style, with a formal dining table that seats sixteen, the room also opens onto the rear garden verandah. Beyond this are the kitchen areas. To the right of the salon is a passage past a small library of books that leads to a study and media room with sofas. Upstairs, there are five en suite bedrooms that lead off to a broad upper verandah, overlooking the courtyard and patio. Two are king size master suites that open onto lovely private balconies, furnished with sofas and breakfast tables, looking out onto the back lawn, beach and sea. One has a separate dressing room, the other a walk in cedar lined closet. The third bedroom is another large double bedroom. Bedrooms four and five have queen size beds and are best for children, singles or young couples. All bedrooms are charmingly appointed and painted in soothing pastel tones, with teak floors, lovely antique wrought iron beds and mellow wooden furnishings, light, local fabrics and beamed ceilings. Their bathrooms are equally attractive with antique fittings, painted tiles and several freestanding antique tubs. These rooms blend period character with a homely, light, easy atmosphere, lovely to stay in, totally in tune with their setting. To the left of the main front entrance, passing the furnished, pool side patio, one comes to a pretty pool house with barbecue and dining table. Beyond this is a separate guest cottage containing a large and very attractive king size en suite double bedroom with teak floor and ceiling, hearth and writing desk, looking out over the pool and front garden, with private patio and dining table.

Around to the rear of the house, the lower verandah’s indoor and outdoor sitting areas open onto a rear garden patio with a large circular dining table with lovely sea views. A long back lawn leads down to the white wrought iron railings at the foot of the property and a locked gateway that steps directly onto the sweeping mile of practically deserted white sandy beach. To the west the beach leads past private estates to the tip of the island. Permanent Staff includes Housekeeper, Cook, gardener, boatman, caretaker and offsite managing agent. Additional staff available on request depending on number of guests. Cuisine is a good quality home cooking in Bahamian, Caribbean, European or international styles.
